San Francisco de Quito

San Francisco de Quito , official name but known under the name of Quito , is the Capitale of the Ecuador and the province of Pichincha. Large Quito of the Metropolitan area hoped approximately 2,1 million inhabitants in 2007 and continuous to increase at fast intervals.

The city extends from north in the south on 20  km length, at an altitude of 2  850 m, on the sides of the volcano Guagua Pichincha. Its name comes from the Quitus tribes which preceded Caras. Quito means center of the world: center Which , world to . It was officially founded the December 6th 1534 by the Spanish conquistador Sebastián de Belalcázar or Benalcázar.

The nerve center of Quito is at north, where the international airport Mariscal Sucre is.

More in the south the historical colonial center, a point of required passage for all the tourists is. UNESCO declared besides Quito Patrimoine of Humanity in 1978 for its colonial architecture.

The city is located close to the Pinchincha volcano which entered in eruption in 1999.
