Personalities related to the commune

Jean Nicoli , teacher, was born on September 4th, 1899 in San Gavino di Carbini. As of the armistice, it takes part in the formation of the first groups of resistant to San Gavino di Carbini and Casalabriva. It adheres to the clandestine French Communist party on December 28th, 1942. It is one of the leaders of Front National (FN), hero of resistance in Corsica, it is wildly carried out by the fascists of the OVRA (Organization of Vigilance and Repression of Antifascisme), Italian political police, in Bastia on August 30th, 1943. A monument is dedicated to him at the southern entry of San Gavino, on the left, approximately 250 m after the cemetery.

Gift Jacques Martinetti and Marcel Nicolaï , resistant, grapeshots by the Germans at the southern entry of San Gavino di Carbini; the place of their execution is marked of a cross in edge of road on the right at the southern entry of the village, opposite the communal cemetery.

François - Marie Pietri , is a military career. Born on August 2nd, 1887 in San Gavino di Carbini, it is one of the initiators of Resistance gaulist in Corsica. It invites to form a " legion corse" July 11th, 1940. A maquis is organized in the sector of San Gavino di Carbini. September 9th, 1943, dates from the rising of the Corsican patriots it takes part in engagements in sartenais, like on September 11th in Ospedale. Lieutenant-colonel of the FFI (French Forces of the Interior) to the Release, Military Cross, Large Officer of the Legion of Honor, it dies on January 26th, 1961.
