San-Antonio (series)
See also: San Antonio (homonymy)
San-Antonio is a series of detective novels written by Frederic Dard putting in the high-speed motorboat the police superintendent Antoine San-Antonio .
Description
The work, which is presented in the form of a series of detective novels tied up very well, is in fact true a Saga, during which important characters appear (Bérurier, Pinaud, Jérémie Blanc, Marie-Marie, Toinet…), and evolve/move. The topics are extremely varied (police investigations of course, Espionnage, but also Terrorisme, references to the Second world war, even Science-fiction), even if the principal screen remains very often the resolution of a mystery by the police chief San-Antonio. The reader is very often taken with part by the author, and becomes thus actor of the history and not simply pilot liability. Inexhaustible slang liveliness, the lucky finds of vocabulary, the constant syntactic invention, the comic force of the situations and dialogs but also a major pessimism make a single work of it, under the auspices of Rabelais and Céline.
Characters
-
San-Antonio
The police chief has several caps: police chief, therefore, but also secret agent, directing of the police force, Novelist (San-Antonio writes the novels of which it is itself the hero). And, of course, Tempting inveterate… One could even affirm that it is its main activity. One learns very little from things on him by reading his adventures. Fore-mentioned Antoine, of the sign ascending Cancer Sagittarius, it followed his secondary studies to the college of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer. Doubled nonconformist of a middle-class man to the tastes of posted luxury (always well equipped and amateur with beautiful motors, of which it quotes the marks), but without taste pronounced for the easy money. It has on the contrary a great honesty and probity and refuses to benefit personally from the situations. It resides at certain times with 103, rue de l'Église with Neuilly-sur-Seine, with others in the house of his mother, with Saint-Cloud.
Physically, one knows practically nothing him, except that it is brown, that it weighs 90 kilos, that its sex must be of strong size and that it can make use of it with talent. All the other details miss, vary or are contradicted with the liking of the adventures. Certain covers of the novels to give him a face of man race and strong. A good description was given in Céréales Killer (posthumous, 2001) where it compares him and his/her Toinet son in Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt.
-
Félicie
It is the mother of San-Antonio, whom he adores. Soft and attentive old woman, widow since the 32 years age, Félicie is always there when it passes to see it in its house of Saint-Cloud. It prepares small dishes to him and deals with Antoine, known as Toinet, their adoptive son, whose natural father, Wladimir Kelloustik, were killed with his wife at the time of a settling of score between gangsters… Félicie is very obviously inspired by Joséphine, the grandmother of Frederic Dard.
-
Bérurier
Native of Saint-Locdu-the-Old man (Normandy), Alexandre-Benoit Bérurier, inspector, who will become one principal inspector day, team-member ronchonnant with the breadth of remover, whose neglected port, the outrageous vocabulary and the pushing back behavior do not spoil professionalism. Liking the act of flesh as much as sound hierarchically superior , it is credited with a sex of forty-four centimetres (2nd the largest of France, after that of Mr Felix). Bérurier will be even a time Minister of Interior Department.
Its nicknames are numerous: Béru , Gravos , the Large one , Tail of ass , etc It is probably inspired by a former war wounded neighbor.
His wife, Berthe, are also an important character. It posts more than 100 kg on the balance. Berthe does not hide its appetite for the good expensive one and the good flesh, following the example her husband. It always had weak for San-Antonio. Sometimes, it is it which carries out the survey. Bérurier is cocufié by their friend the Alfred hairdresser, which he pretends to be unaware of.
-
Pinaud
César Pinaud is an inspector weak, driveller and senile, who solves nevertheless certain enigmas in spite (or because) of his “travelling” remains pace. It would have been inspired by a bookseller in whom Frederic Dard had placed, without much success, one of its first books. Pinaud is affublé of an impressive quantity of nicknames (“the Bitter Wreck”, “the honest rag”, “Stick-in-the-mud-Stick-in-the-mud”, etc), whose more current remains “Pinuche”.
-
Mathias
Mathias says also the torch , rusted the , the rouquemoute , is police officer and specialist in the scientific investigations. He had many children with a woman who, appears he, is a tinea.
-
Marie-Marie
She appears for the first time in Viva Bertaga (1968), the book whose Berthe is heroin. Niece of Bérurier (as regards its wife), it takes part sometimes in the investigations of her uncle and tutor. This orphan with the face full with freckles and with the braided hair (Sanatorium calls it Miss Braids ), it does not hide its love for the police chief, and this as of his more tender childhood. What complicates a little the things when it becomes promising teenager, then very desirable woman.
The police chief and Marie-Marie will become lovers ( My Mare in Canada , 1989), then husband in the all last novels, and they will have a little girl (Antoinette). Marie-Marie incarnates for Frederic Dard a form of regretted freedom. In this character, the specialists rather easily discover the portrait of Francoise de Caro, his second wife, whom he knew very small, noticed at 16 years at the time of the baptism of his daughter, then married without she never leaving her thoughts meanwhile.
-
Achilles
It is the department head whom one imagines secret, without more precision. Prototype of the person in charge severe but just, bald person, phlegmatic, race, “classieux”, even elegant, with the dires even of the Police chief San-Antonio. Called “the Old man”, “Dabe”…
He names all his mistresses “Miss Zouzou”.
-
Toinet
The adoptive son of San-Antonio, whom he does discover baby in the novel Me, you know me? . He is the natural son of a gangster, Wladimir Kelloustik. The father and the mother of Toinet (her first name is really Antoine) die during this investigation. San-Antonio brings back it to Saint-Cloud. One can think that it is Félicie which adopted it.
To the wire of time, it follows the traces of his father, and develops also talents of really good sleuth… and seducer and fucker (overdrafts in Maman, the lady only makes make me things ).
One can see that it was inspired by the proper son of Frederic Dard, Patrice, who succeeded to him in the writing of the series after his death.
-
Mr Felix
Professor and Misanthropist of his state, put at the early withdrawal in a few months of the retirement (it could not retain exhiber classifies of it his sex exceeding in length that of already phenomenal Bérurier). It appears in a way more episodical than the other characters, but it often sometimes happens to him to play an active role in these stories.
