Samuel Wallis

British navigator , Samuel Wallis (1728-1795) continued the explorations undertaken by John Byron with the ships '' Dolphin '' and '' Swallow ''.

He discovered many island S and Atoll S of the Pacifique South, Pinaki, Nukutavake, Vairaatea, Paraoa, Manuhangi, Nengonengo as well as the discovery of Tahiti, the June 19th 1767 which however had probably already had to be reached by Spanish as of the 16th century, without he being precisely made by it mention in the relations of voyage. Obviously one cannot forget his discovery in the North-East of the islands Fiji an archipelago to which was baptized in its honor, Wallis-and-Futuna. Its memories of voyages were published in 1773. In 1780, it was named police chief of the marine.
