Samuel Taylor Coleridge

The heroic pastoral is a lyric part intended for the scene, practiced in France with.

The spirit and the principles are very close to the lyric Tragédie. It is characterized some however by a lighter character and a reduced number of acts (in general three). It puts in scene gods and hero of traditional mythology gréco-Roman (of or her name), with an intrigue generally centered on the feelings in love.

Most known are due to Lully (Acis and Galatée) and Rameau ( Zaïs, Naïs etc), but this kind was practiced by several their contemporaries.
