Samuel Samossoud

Samuel Samossoud is a Leader Russian, born with Tbilissi (Georgia) the May 18th 1884 and died in Moscow the November 6th 1964.

Biography

It begins its musical career with the Violoncelle, before directing, with Saint-Pétersbourg, the Théâtre Mariinsky in 1917, then the Maly Theater of 1918 with 1936.

In 1936, it is named musical director of the Théâtre Bolchoï with Moscow and founds the Philharmonic orchestra of Moscow in 1951.

Repertory

It in particular directed the first of several works of Dmitri Chostakovitch (the opera the Nose , the symphony n° 7 " Leningrad" ) or of Sergueï Prokofiev (music of the film Alexandre Nevski , the opera War and peace ).
