Samuel Mohaliver
Samuel Mohaliver is a Rabbin, large scholar of Torah, and one of the founders of the movement of the " Lovers of Sion " in Russia. It is born in the suburbs from Vilna in 1824. He studies simultaneously the Scriptures, various Jewish orthodoxe philosophies, the Kabbale and even certain profane subjects.
He fulfills the functions of rabbi in various cities, and gradually makes known himself like public personality. He concentrates mainly his activity in the educational field and the installation of the Community life. Following the Pogroms in Russia aiming at the Jewish in 1881, it adheres to the movement " Love of Sion " and the Jewish emigration of Russia recommends towards the Ground of Israel. He travels besides in several countries of the world, where he meets many presidents of Jewish communities in order to promote the ideal Zionist. In Paris, it meets the baron Rothschild and encourages it to support the company Zionist. In 1890, it visits for the first time the Palestine, and as of its return in Russia, accentuates its action in favor of the installation out of Ground of Israel. For its 70 years, direction of the " Lovers of Sion" plant in its honor an orchard of will cédras close to Hadera.
It enters to the movement Zionist directed by Theodor Herzl, but because of its weak physical condition, it is exempted to take part in the first Congress Zionist, where the Mohaliver rabbi sends a message read in public.
It will be named one of the 4 representatives Zionists of Russia within central management.
Samuel Mohaliver dies in 1898 with Bialystok. The Kibboutz Gan-Shmuel, which begin with the orchard from will cédras, points out its memory today.
