Samuel Foote (January 27th 1720 - October 21st 1777), actor and English comic author, called the modern Aristophane , born in the county from Cornwall.

It directed during some time the Théâtre of New-Market at the same time as it played there as actor, and was pointed out by the license with which it attacked in his roles the most distinguished contemporary characters; one was forced several kings to prohibit the scene to him.

It succeeded especially in the joke and the satire. Its works are composed of twenty parts, which shine rather by the spirit and cheerfulness that by the plan.

One hardly preserved at the theater but only one of his parts, The May gold off Garrat . They were joined together with London in 1778, 4 volumes in-8.
