In the Bible, Samuel is regarded as a prophet in Israel although its role is closer to that of a judge, i.e. a warlike chief with the biblical direction. Its name means “That which listening God” ( Schma El ).
Child, it was devoted to the Lord by his mother Hannah (Anne), who received it like a gift of God, whereas it was sterile. This one took it along food in the Elie high priest whereas he was child. Later it is Samuel, prophet already famous in Israel, which appointed the first king of the Hebrew , Saül, which God had shown him. The Hebrews absolutely wanted a king and God in spite of his reserves ends up their granting one of them. When Saül displeased with God, this one required of Samuel to devote king another person: David, which was not whereas a shepherd, but which became the precentor of the praises of God among the Men: it is David which composed the majority of the Psaumes of the Bible. David, after his famous victory against Goliath, will have with the assistance of the Samuel old man to assert himself militarily vis-a-vis Saül to gain the crown.
With died of Samuel, Saül still made call its heart for the adviser, according to Samuel 28:13. The Christian Church celebrates it the August 20th.
