History

With the the Middle Ages and until the 18th century it was especially a vacation resort, about with the same row as the close boroughs Sestri Ponente, Pegli, Pra' and Voltri. Witnesses of this ostentation period, some sumptuous villas.

One will mention the installation of the Forging mills Balleydier in 1832, absorptive by the factories Ansaldo (see), the iron and steel pole of Italsider (also extending on Cornigliano) and the factories of the transport sector. The presence of many workmen gave him to dispute with the commune of Biella (BI) the nickname of " Manchester d' Italie" .

In first half of the 20th century the amplification of the port imposed by the growth of the exchanges made lose with Sampierdarena its beautiful sand beach, with the leiu of which are built still active modern quays and the docks of the new port.

Today

Where imposing it establishment Ansaldo rose (see), a residential district was born around a shopping mall, a sport hall and a cinema complex. The operation - in a city more accustomed to ronchonner ( mugugno ) that to be filled with enthusiasm - however was well accepted because of revalorization of the site. The will to keep traces of the industrial structures prevailed and certain buildings were restored.

Sit of the third hospital of Genoa (Scassi Villa), Sampierdarena proudly continues to regard itself a small town, as an archipelago of streets and quasi autonomous places compared to the downtown area; the popular quarters of the place chief, concentrated in Rivarolo in primis , which developed much in the Années 1990) do not influence its life much.

Reason for pride of the district, the prestigious company of football: u.a. Sampdoria, born in 1946 of fusion between the company Sampierdarenese - which had had good successes in the Années 1930 - and the company which had been given like titrates Andrea Doria.
