Samoan federation of Rugby to XV
The Fédération Samoa of Rugby to XV (Samoa Rugby Football Union) is an organization member of the International Rugby Board (IRB) which governs the organization of Rugby with XV in the Samoa islands.
It gathers the provincial federations, the clubs, associations, the sportsmen, the trainers, the referees, to contribute to the practice and the development of Rugby in all the Samoan territory .
It is divided into 12 local federations. The Samoa Rugby Football Union is member of Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance (PIRA), with the Fiji and the Tonga. Rugby with XV is practiced in 120 clubs by approximately 5 000 adult players and 10 000 juniors, whereas the population is only of 175 000 inhabitants.
History
Rugby with XV was introduced in Samoa in 1920 and the Samoan federation of Rugby was created in 1924.The team of Samoa played its first international match against the team of Fiji the August 18th 1924, Samoa lost 0-6. The return match was gained by Samoa on the score of 9-3.
