Sammy Kaye
Sammy Kaye (of its true name Samuel Zarnocay Jr, born the March 13rd 1910 with Lakewood, Ohio - died the June 2nd 1987 with Ridgewood, in the New Jersey) was a team leader and a famous lyric writer.
It made its studies with the college Rocky River in the Ohio, which it left in 1927. At the University of Athens in Ohio he was member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He could play of the saxophone and the clarinet, but he never occurred like a soloist neither for one nor for the other.
Chief of one of these groups which one called “sweet” during the era Big Band, it recorded a great number of discs for Vocalion Records, RCA Victor, Columbia Records and the American Decca label. Was Kaye known for a gimmick with participation of the spectators called “ So You Want To Lead has Band? ” One invited spectators there on the scene to try to direct the orchestra, with the possibility of gaining sticks. It was known also for its way of singing titles of songs, which was imitated by Kay Kyser and Blue Barron.
Among his musicians one counts Ralph Flanagan, Dale Cornell and Marty Oscard and among his singers Don Cornell (nothing commun run with Dale Cornell), Nancy Norman.
After its death it was allowed in Big Band and the Jazz Hall off Famed in 1992 and, for its contribution to the industry of the recording, it has its star on Hollywood Walk off Famed.
It is mentioned in the words of the song “Kids” of Musical Bye Bye Birdie and also in “Opus One” of the Brothers Millets.
