Samir Barris

Samir Barris is a Auteur-compositeur-interprète of Brussels. He makes known himself at the end of the Années 1990 for his role within the group Melon Galia. After the separation of the group, it launches out in a career solo. In 2006, it gains high the hand the Musique springboard with the Frenchwoman and leaves its first album in Belgium. Its first album Which effect? leaves in France and Suisse.

Career

The time Melon Galia (1996-2004)

In 1996, Samir Barris and Thierry De Brouwer found Melon Galia. They are joined by Aurélie Muller, Fred Van Bever and Delphine Sigrist and quickly become a headlight group of the scene coed of the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles. This success becomes national in 1998, when leaves their first EP “You leave me already”. Individual the the occasion to conceal to me is massively diffused on Radio 21 and groups it (whose average age is hardly more than 20 years) is propelled on the front of the scene (many TVS, many concerts and festivals).

On this first ep, Samir holds the battery and sings the title “Freezing” in duet with Aurélie Muller. Thereafter, it will be confined with the role of beater multi-instrumentalist, without taking the microphone more.

The group will leave 2 another EPs and an album ( embarrassments of the daily newspaper in 2000), diffused on independent labels in the Benelux, in France, with the Japan and in North America. This international India diffusion but, several prices (of which the Price Rapsat-Lelièvre in 2002), of prestigious collaborations (the English arranger John Cunningham, American of Bright Eyes, French draftsmen Dupuy and Berberian), an appointment missed with the “general public” and an early separation (in 2004) will contribute to give to Melon Galia the patina of a worship group for the pop amateurs orchestral one sung in French.

In solo (2004-…)

In 2004, Samir Barris starts a career solo. As of these first times, it is accompanied on scene by the double bass player Nicholas Yates and it is always the case today.

In 2006, it gains high the hand the Musique contest with the Frenchwoman and the title “the ditch” is a great radiophonic success in Belgium, which contributes to place Samir Barris on the front of the new French-speaking Belgian scene (just behind Saule, be 67 or Marie Warnant). In 2007, this first album leaves to France and Switzerland.

Group XX

In 2007, Samir Barris founds group XX, with Nicholas Yates (double bass) and Severine Cayron (voice, violoncello).
