Sambucucciu d\' Alandu

Sambucucciu d' Àlandu is one of the important characters of the history of Corsica. Of him we know neither the dates nor the death and birthplaces. We know nevertheless that it is originating in the village of Àlandu in the Pieve of the Boziu. It is thanks to the Corsican chroniclers of the Middle Ages Giovanni della Grossa and Pietro Cirneo that we know that Sambucucciu d' Alandu took the head of the anti-feudal revolt of 1357. During these popular revolts all the Lords were pursued and the destroyed castles, at least temporarily. The men of wars called corporals, capurali in Corsican, replaced the lords of the island. However the seigniories were restored in the South of Corsica, has Terra di I Signori , and in the Corsica Cape. The center of the island, was called him Terra di Comune , or Terra del Comune , in reference to the Commune of Genoa, whose partisans of the revolt placed themselves under its protection. It is thus advisable to translate this expression by " Ground of the Commune (of Genoa) " and not " Ground of the commun" , as it was the case.
