The department of Sambre-and-Meuse was old a French department whose chief town was Namur.

The department was created on October 1st 1795 during the meeting of Belgium and the Principauté of Liege in France, and was dissolved in 1814.

This department was divided into four districts:

  • district of Namur

cantons: Andenne, Dhuy, Pit-the-City, Gembloux and Namur.
  • Dining district of
cantons: Beauraing, Ciney, Dining, Florennes and Walcourt. cantons: Durbuy, Érezée, Havelange, Rock-in-Ardenne, Walk-in-Famenne and Rochefort.
  • district of Saint-Hubert
cantons: Gedinne, Nassogne, Saint-Hubert and Wellin.
