Samara (in Cyrillic Самара) is a big city of Russia, to 900 km with the east-south-east of Moscow not far from the border with Kazakhstan. Its population is assembled to a million and half of inhabitants. the city developed starting from a fortress founded in 1586

Samara is an important port along the river the Volga, major river artery for transport in Russia, and node of communication to the intersection of the Moscow-Tcheliabinsk railway. To have lodged Czech prisoners of the First World War, who were combined with white Russian against the capacity of the Soviet S (it will be the army known as of the " Czech blancs"), Samara is then " punie" and renamed Kouïbychev , of the name of a hero of the Revolution.

During the Second world war, Stalin delocalizes the government of the USSR there to put it safe from the German projection. One can visit today, to remember it this time, the " Stalina" bunker; (bunker of Stalin), larger bunker of the world, built like shelter of the government. After the fall of the the USSR, the city finds its old name of Samara.

When the USSR wanted to create a very large factory of production of private cars, a city with 100km of Samara was chosen and baptized Togliatti of the name of Palmiro Togliatti, leader historical of the Italian Communist party. Indeed, this factory exploited an Italian technology (FIAT), to produce the range Lada. This is why a model of this range bore the name of Lada Samara, the another name of Jigouli, which is the hills which occupy the other edge of the the Volga vis-a-vis the city. Samara is an important industrial center, in particular for the production of rockets (factory Progress) and of the space vehicles it is here that the machine was built which put Youri Gagarine orbits about it in 1961. The city is in the middle of an important petrochemical, hydroelectric and industrial complex (mechanical engineering).

Samara was put on the front of the international scene. it is indeed in this city that was held the 19th top Union European-Russia from May 17th to 18th 2007. This top showed a failure. The subjects of discords between Russia and the European Union are numerous
