Hector Adair, a character of the novel Spirit-of-Iron (1923), written by the son of Steele, Harwood Steele, was inspired by the life of the famous Mountie . The novel comprising a note of the author in introduction specifying that: " Hector Adair is supposed to represent the ideal officer of Mounted Police in particular and the Britannique officer in general. It should be attached to no historical figure of this Force."In the novel Alaska of James Michener, the " Major Sam Steele" is the representative of the assembled Police force. Michener recognizes to him the statute of historical figure in a preliminary note, but the veracity of some of its actions is not easily verifiable.
