Sam Pollock
Sam Pollock (Montreal, December 15th, 1925 - Toronto, August 15th, 2007) was a sporting administrator Québécois. He was especially distinguished as managing director from the team from hockey Canadian of Montreal , station which it occupied during 14 years. Its talents of recruiter and his skill to negotiate (during the Pollock years, the Canadians fished out inter alia Guy Lafleur, Bob Gainey and Larry Robinson) helped the team Montreal ease to gain nine times the Coupe Stanley between 1965 and 1978.
Career
Sam Pollock joined the Club of Canadian Hockey in 1945. He will remain associated with the organistaion during 32 years.Initially engaged as depistor, it was named personnel manager of the team in 1950. It leads initially the Canadian junior of Montreal to the conquest of the Coupe Memorial, higher distinction of hockey junior, in 1950, then republishes the exploit in 1958 with the Canadian Ottawa Junior.
In 1963, Sam Pollock succeeded Frank J. Selke as managing director of the Canadian. By a round of skilful negotiations, it makes it possible to the Canadian to put the hand on the first choice of the fishing out of expansion of 1971, and Montreal will fish out Guy Lafleur. Pollock is withdrawn in 1978, after 9 conquests of the Stanley Cut.
Honors
Sam Pollock was established with the Temple of re-elected hockey in 1978. The same year, the town of Montreal gives to him the distinction of “Grand Montréalais”. In 1985, it is made officer of the Ordre of Canada. In 2002, one names it Chevalier of the Ordre of Quebec.
Baseball
Sam Pollock also sat on the board of directors of the Blue Jays of Toronto of the American Ligue of Baseball of 1995 with 2000.
Death
Pollock is deceased in Toronto, the August 15th 2007, at the 81 years age.
