Biography

Before teaching in several Italian academies (Perugia, Milan, Florence), this self-educated musician profited from a true training near Turi Belfiore and Antony Titone. From 1987 to 1990, it was named with the head of the Teatro Communale of Bologna. He was also assistant of Luigi Nono.

In 2002, its Lohengrin , which does not have great any more a deal to see with that of Wagner, is presented successfully to the Cité of the music to Paris.

In 2003, more than 150 saxophonists took part in Paris, with the Musée of Orsay, the execution of one of its works, the Mouth, the Feet, the Sound (demonstration filmed by the French television channel France 3).

Created in May 2006 with Schwetzingen, its opera Da gelo has gelo (one winter the other) - continuation of one hundred short scenes extracted the newspaper of Izumi Shikibu, courtesan Japanese poetess having lived towards the end of the 10th century - in May - June 2007 is presented to the Opéra of Paris ( Palais Garnier ), under the musical direction of Tito Cecchereni, in a setting in scene of the American Chorégraphe Trisha Brown.

Sciarrino is interested particularly in the transcription, and especially for the quartets of saxophones. He prefers however the word of developments rather than of transcription. Some quartets of saxophones like Xasax or Lost Clouds insert sometimes its developments , conceived starting from works of Bach, Carlo Gesualdo, or Mozart, with the program in their concerts.

The Italian musician Stefano Scodanibbio regards Salvatore Sciarrino as a “fundamental” creator, authentic “a reference” for the contemporary period.
