The knight Salvatore Adamo is a Chanteur Compositeur Francophone, born on November 1st 1943 with Comiso (Sicily). In 1947, his/her father leaves to work in Belgium in the mines, accompanied by its family. It grows with Jemappes.
In December 1959, it gains a Radio-hook after being fished out, and leaves a first 45 turns, which passes unperceived. It leaves to Paris and meets the first success in 1963 with Without you my crumb . Follow Tombe snow (1963), You allow Mister (1964), Dolce Paola , the Girls of the seaside and My hands on your hips (1965) Inch' Allah (1967), It is my life (1976).
Jacques Brel said of him that he was a “tender gardener of the love” and Raymond Devos “Adamo… it is song, they are poems, they are vibrations! ”
Its success is international (particularly with the Japan), it will sing its songs in many other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, Japanese, Portuguese, Turkish). Its success in Japan is explained by the fact why the musical structure of its song Tombe snow , a refrain of five syllables, corresponds to a traditional form of the Japanese song (Haïku). The Japanese thus adapted this song and sometimes themselves assert it like pertaining to their inheritance according to an anecdote brought back by Salvatore Adamo itself. With nearly 95 million sold discs, Adamo at the head places larger sales at the Belgian level, which is worth besides to him a place in the 100 best salesmen of disc in the world (see Nombres of albums and individual sold)
The Années 1980 will see it a little in withdrawal. In 1984 it will be victim of a heart disease. In 2003 the album Zanzibar with collaboration leaves his/her friend, the singer Arno, this last began again besides with brilliance " Girls of the edge of mer". In 2004, following health issues, it must cancel many concerts, in particular with the Festival of the Old Plow. In 2007, the share leaves the angel followed of a round.
Since 1993 Adamo is ambassador of UNICEF Belgium.
By royal decree of the July 4th 2001, the king of the Belgians Albert II of Belgium concedes the to him title of knight.
