Saltworks of Montjoly
The Salines of Montjoly are a littoral marsh located on the commune of Rémire-Montjoly in Guyana. The Saltworks of Montjoly are a site natural of the Island of Cayenne pertaining to the Conservatoire of the littoral. The name seems to come from the natural salt deposits which are formed after evaporation of sea water on the site.
They are made up of:
- the beach, whose width is subjected to the erosion and the cyclic phenomena of mudbanks poured by the the Amazon.
- the dune cord, bordering the beach.
- the wetland, a vast zone filled with muddy materials (marsh).
Although it is about a natural environment, the Saltworks of Montjoly are enclosed in a suburban district to 10 km of Cayenne. The site profits from a path of 1,5 km which curves between seaside and Mangrove.
