Saltstraumen
The Saltstraumen is a fort running of Marée S, in an arm of the sea located at approximately 30 kilometers in the east of the town of Bodø in Norway. According to the local tourist guide it is about most powerful running of tide of the world. More than 400 million m ³ of marine water pass indeed in this place 3 kilometers length and in 6 hours, with a speed of current which can reach the 20 node S. Of the swirls 10 meters in diameter and 5 meters depth 150 meters broad appears at the strongest times.

The Saltstraumen exists only since 2.000 or 3.000 years. Previously, this area presented a different aspect because the glaciers occupied it during approximately 10.000 years. The phenomenon appeared when the sea started to penetrate in the Fjord Skjerstad.The difference in level between the sea and the fjord can be assembled to 1 meter. The current velocity can reach 22 nodes (40 km/h). When the tide is reversed, there is a " fenêtre" of navigation which the boats can borrow. The current is quasi no one indeed at this time.
Saltstraumen is a place rich in Baudroie S, which are attracted by the fish abundance in the current like the black Lieu, the Morue, the Old seaman, the Sébaste and the Flétan.
