Salto (software)

Salto is a Logiciel of creation of interactive applications, developed by the company Alterface.

Salto is an engine of interaction Real-time, it is absolutely not a tool for creation of contents. It uses existing contents (images, sounds, films, scenes 3D) created by means of existing tools on the market (3D Studio max, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe First…).

The contribution of Salto lies in its capacity to integrate any type of Senseur and Actuateur, by thus making a Moteur software from which many interactive applications, since terminals to spectacles, can be developed.

Of a first austere access for the not-developers, Salto is a flexible and powerful tool making it possible to quickly implement spectacular interactions without having all to recreate. The tool will become interesting with the not-developers the day when an tool-author will accompany it.

Description of the software

Salto is a Moteur software which is programmed easily in language XML to develop interactive applications. Contrary to other tools of the market (such as Adobe Flash or Adobe Director), the principle of Salto is to use mainly external sensors, across the traditional keyboard/mouse. This tool is consequently mainly used in the ludo-educational field, typically in the museums and amusement parks, to carry out devices of interaction in physical space.

Salto offers the guarantee of a complete separation between technology and the contents (one and the other being interchangeable). The engine takes in entry a file with the format XML which goes instancier a particular application while describing to him:

on the one hand sensors used, as well as the Treatment of the signal to be applied to them;

in addition elements of contents necessary (external resources stored on the hard drive);

and finally the influence of the first on the seconds, i.e. the interactive scenario, the application itself.

The developers can also create new Plugin S in language C++ to extend the capacities of the engine in terms of sensors and actuateurs.
