Salting (river)

The Salaison is a coastal river of Herault feeding the pond of Gold in the East of Montpellier.

It takes its source on the commune of Guzargues to a score of kilometers of its mouth. It crosses then the communes of Teyran, Crès (the river made there the limit with Vendargues), Saint-Ells then Mauguio. The current course of the Salting joined the pond of Gold by a artificial delta made up of two arms to the locality of the Huts of the Salting.

Its Affluents

The salting receives in its upstream part many temporary brooks coming from the Garrigue S. These rivers are dry apart from the stormy periods of autumn. It also receives three affluents which are of upstream downstream:
  • the brook of Cassagnole (also called Massillan), the longest affluent it crosses the communes of Assas and Teyran
  • the brook of the Mayre , supplied with the sources of Jacou, it joined the Salting with the Crès
  • the Balaurie , located on the communes of Saint-Ells and Mauguio, it brings an important flow at the time of the Crue S
