Saltarello

The Saltarello (in French saltarelle the ) was a Danse merry and alive which developed from the Gaillarde of Naples, in the current of the 13th century in Italy. The collections of dances of Pierre Attaignant and Pierre Phalèse contain several saltarelles .

It is a dance at three times, named from one of its particular steps, according to the Italian verb saltare (to jump).
