Salomonsen end

Finn Salomonsen is a ornithologist Danish, born the January 31st 1909 with Copenhagen and dead the April 27th 1983.

Graduate of Zoology in 1932, he is zoologist attending for Danish Natural reserves of 1936 1943. He obtains in 1939 his title of doctor and fact of very many voyages to the Greenland, the last, three years before his death. He studies there the Avifaune of Greenland. He explores Philippines in 1951-1952 and takes part in a forwarding in 1962 in the Archipel Bismarck.

He is the editor of the review Dansk Ornithologisk Forenings Tidsskrift of 1942 with 1961. Starting from 1943, he is assistant at the department of ornithology of the Musée of zoology of the university of Copenhagen, in 1952 preserving, 1958 preserving as a chief until his departure with the retirement in 1978.

It chairs, of 1959 with 1971, Dansk Ornitologisk Forening (or Danish ornithological Company). It is interested particularly in the phenomenon of moult in the birds and in the migration. If it is one of the principal specialists in the birds of the North Atlantic, it is also interested in the birds of mountain of Madagascar and Philippines. He studies the Alcidae of the Atlantic, the Alcedinidae of Africa, the Dicaeidae, the Meliphagidae and the Héron S of New Guinea. He is the author of more than two hundred publications. He takes part in the adoption of a law of restriction of hunting on Greenland (1977).
