The history of the mark

A long story

Created in 1890, the Salmson company took part in the industrial great adventures which marked the history of the XXe Century.

Beginnings of aeronautics with the saga of the car, Salmson played a pioneer part in the development of engines and innovating vehicles with which the names remain associated with glorious hours with French technology, that it acts of the first flights of air-mail or the twenty-four hours of Mans.

Centred since the Sixties on one of its activities of origin, the design and the production of systems of pumping, the company knew to make profitable its experiment and its pioneer spirit to impose itself like one of the major actors of this field.

At the dawn of a new century, Salmson is engaged in a challenge with the capital stakes: the management of the water resource of planet. Some key dates

1890

Creation of the company " Emile Salmson, Ing." specialized in the construction industry, the trade and the maintenance of steam engines and pumps. The company quickly becomes supplier of the Bridges and Chaussées, of the railroad companies, military engineering and artillery.

The first compressors and centrifugal pumps bearing the name of Salmson make their appearance on the market.

Emile SALMSON 1896

Renamed " Emile Salmson & Co, Engineers Constructeurs" , the company develops additional activities: construction of hydraulic elevators, oil and gas engines. It settles in Billancourt where it sets up an aeronautical pole centered on the construction of engines of planes.

1911

A plane been driven by a Salmson engine carries out the first postal flight of the history between Allahabad and Naini in the Indies. 1915

Salmson is one of the principal French firms of aeronautical engineering.

1919

The Company of the Salmson Engines is directed towards automobile industry.

1920

Exit of the workshops of Billancourt of the first vehicle of the mark: cyclecar GN Salmson.

1921

Died of Emile Salmson. 1928

Salmson directs its automobile production towards great tourism with the exit of S6, first car of the mark with camshaft placed at the back of the engine. From 1921 to 1928, Salmson gained 550 races in the world and beat 10 world records.

1931

By carrying out the connection Le Bourget-Moscow, on board a single-seater Salmson, Maryse Bastié establishes two new world records: that of the longest distance covered by a pilot woman and that of the longest flight carried out by a light plane.

1950

With 1.131 cars left the factories of Billancourt, the production finds its level of pre-war period. Side plane, the year is marked by the exploit of the " cry-cri" who reaches the 4000 m of altitude.

1953

In spite of the exit of two remarkable models, " Randonnée" and the sporting half-compartment " 2300 S" , the company of the Salmson Engines files for bankruptcy its. 1954

Salmson buys at the Perfecta company the license drowned rotor circulators.

1957

Last built car with Billancourt and last fireworks of the Salmson cars: the " 2300 S" gain the 24 hours of Mans of WP category.

1961

Transfer of the production site of Salmson in Laval in Mayenne. 1962

The family company becomes a subsidiary company of group ITT-LMT. 1976

Thomson becomes the principal shareholder of Salmson. 1984:

The Company of the Salmson Pumps integrates the German group WILO which becomes European N°2 of the sector. 1993

Salmson is the first manufacturer of French pumps to obtain certification ISO 9001.

1995

Launching in Laval of the manufacture of the first range of multicellular pumps stainless of the mark. 1997

Creation of the network Delta gathering of the distributers and repairers specialized in the Cycle of water and industry. 1999

Exit of the first multicellular pumps stainless integrating the electronic variation speed. 2000

Purchase of Essamico, manufacturer of pumps process. 2003

Purchase by the group of the company MOVED in Germany. Obtaining certification ISO 9001 version 2000. 2005

Launching of the SIRIUX, circulator high output with technology ECM.

2007
