Salmiakki
Salmiakki (in Finnish; Salmiaklakrits in Swedish, salmiaklakrids in Danish and zoute drop in Dutch or Salmiakklakris in Norwegian) is a term indicating a popular type of delicacy in the Scandinavian Pays, the Netherlands and the Germany, of which one of the principal ingredients is the Chlorure of ammonium, NH4Cl. This molecule is a salt, which causes a salivation stronger than the salt of table (Sodium chloride). The word Salmiakki is also used like a short cut to indicate this salt in the list of the ingredients.
The salmiakki are invariably with the taste of Réglisse, some alternatives with the fruit tastes exist however. One finds some of all kinds, of all forms, with concentrations out of chloride ammonium more or less raised, and thus a more or less strong taste.
These candies are also used to create a very popular alcoholic drink in Finland, the Salmiakki Koskenkorva or Salmiakki Kossu . The salmiakki are dissolved in Vodka in order to approximately obtain a very black alcohol from 30 to 40 degrees.
