Of aucuns claim besides that it is in Salins that the battle was held of Alésia, who put fine with the Guerre of Gaules.
To the the Middle Ages, salt contributes to make city the second city of Franche-Comté with 8000 inhabitants. It includes/understands 17 religious chapters then, more than 25 turns of enclosure and fact appears of great arts center, in particular of the book. Two saltworks exist in 1115, the small saltworks with the well in Muire , and the great saltworks, known as great saunery, with the well of Upstream .
The decline the Saline ones will be done in several stages and through a succession of events unhappy. First of all, the city will not be selected with the Revolution like chief town of department of the Jura. Then it is a terrible fire which strikes it into 1825 which sees part of the great destroyed saltworks. Under the Second Empire, this one will know a certain revival, since one will seek to do of it one elegant Thermal spa under the impulse of a business man, Grimaldi, which repurchased the royal concession of exploitation of the saltworks in 1843. The thermal spa will be built in 1854 on the site of the small saltworks. In 1926, the city will thus adopt the name of “Saline-the-Baths”. But this new vocation will hardly manage to attenuate the final blow struck by closing saltworks in 1962, which moreover will be followed shortly after by that of the Faïence laugh, in 1995.
