Salindres
Salindres is a common French, located in the department of the Gard and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.
Its inhabitants are called Salindrois .
Geography
Salindres is a commune located in the Communauté of agglomeration of Large the Ales. It was, at the XIXe century, the site of the first factory of Pechiney, which is worth to him to be described as “cradle of aluminum”.Today, it has the characteristics of a small town. It is located at 10 km of Alès, 50 km of Nimes and 100 km of Montpellier. It is strongly marked by more than one century and half of industrial activity.
The city had a passanger station on small the Ligne Ales-Bessèges of the SNCF. This station is demolished today. The stop is materialized by a simple shelter at the edge of the quay. The goods station of Salindres was, during the years 1950-1960, the second station of freight of the area in tonnage of goods. At the beginning of 2007, a hangar with goods was built in edge of railway. This hangar must receive what was decided and voted as a municipal council. The goods would arrive at Salindres by railway.
History
The history of the 19th century of the city is closely related to the industrial facilities of the factory Pechiney then at the 20th century Rhône-Poulenc. Salindres is the oldest producing industrial site of aluminum in the world (since 1855).Since, companies developed the chemical site, they break up into two entities at present:
- Axens: Manufacture of catalysts for oil industry;
- Rhodia Operations: Production of organic fluorinated products.
New industries settled these last years benefitting from the proximity of a classified factory SEVESO 2: Ceramics Industrial technique (CTIsa) and S.A.S. Soureil.
These last installations are the leading causes of olfactive pollution of the commune. An Association (ADISL) and many residents highly dispute the establishment of all new company on the commune. A petition on this subject collected more: 2300 signatures. A petition specific to the quasi totality of the doctors of Salindres and close communes was also made up. Several complaints were also lodged with the public prosecutor of Ales.
Moreover, one project of a processing center of the household refuse with large scales (+de 110.000 people) animates the life citizen salindroise. This project is launched by the Ale SMIRITOM. Many inhabitants of Large Ales are against this project imposed on the residents.
The principle of a study on the odors and the quality of the air with Salindres was voted as a municipal council on March 7th, 2007. It and was installation during 2007 with the assistance of Air-Languedoc Roussillon.
