Salim El-Hoss

Salim el-Hoss (rear RTL سليمأحمدالحص) is a Politician Lebanon board sunnite, born in 1929. It was five times Prime Minister (1976-80, 1987-90, 1988-89, 1989-90, 1998-2000) and a long time appointed Beirut.

He becomes Prime Minister for the first time in December 1976, named by the president Elias Sarkis. He resigns in 1980.

He is named in 1984 Minister for Education in the government of Rachid Karamé under the presidency of Amine Gemayel and becomes Prime Minister by Intérim in 1987 after the assassination of Karamé.

In 1988, at the end of the mandate of Gemayel, he refuses to yield the capacity to the Prime Minister by interim Michel Aoun, whose he considers the nomination anticonstitutional (Aoun is Christian whereas this function is reserved for a sunnite). Hoss remains with the head of a government whose capacity extends on the Moslem areas from Lebanon.

It is again named Prime Minister in 1989 after the Accords of Taëf by the president Rene Moawad then by Elias Hraoui. He resigns one year later.

He is elected appointed of Beirut in 1992 and will be re-elected in 1996.

He is named Prime Minister in 1998 by the president Emile Lahoud. He resigns in 2000 after his defeat with the legislative elections vis-a-vis the list of Rafiq Hariri.

Salim el-Hoss is one of the historical opponents with Hariri and preaches a policy much less liberal and lessWestern. It is an economist who made his career in the university education and the banking environment until the Seventies. He is the author of many works of economy and political sciences.

He is president of a political small part, the Coterie of the National action until 2006. Since 2005, it manages the Forum of the National unit - the Third force - which wants to be equidistant forces pro and antisyriennes.

He is the former president of the Audit Board of the Lebanese banks.

He is member of the conference “anti-impérialiste” Axis for Peace.
