Salicylic acid
The salicylic acid is a Carboxylic acid colorless and Cristallin used like drug.
Utility
The salicylic acid is naturally synthesized by some vegetable, one finds it in particular in Fruit S, in form esterified of Salicylate of methyl. It can act like a hormonal signal being able to start, in certain cases, a vegetable Thermogenèse.
Introduced in great quantities, it is a product Toxique, but in less quantities it is used like food Conservateur and Antiseptique.
The medical properties of the salicylic acid are known for a long time, especially for its action against the Fièvre. One extracted it mainly from the Saule, salix in Latin from which it draws its name. In the fight against the fever, it from now on is supplanted by other drugs more effective as the Aspirine (which is a derivative), or the Paracétamol.
It from now on is used more for its alleviating action (analgesic) and one finds it in many products in dermatology in complement of an other active ingredient. It for example is used in the treatment of the Acné, the Verrue S or the Hyperhidrose.
Chemical synthesis and Properties
The carboxylic acid grouping (- COOH) can react with a alcohol by giving many to Ester S. the group Hydroxyle can react with the acetic Acid to form Acetylsalicylic acid , or aspirine.Industrially, the salicylic acid is synthesized by the Réaction of Kolbe:
> The salicylic acid forms with the ion salicylate an acid couple/bases of formula
