Saleys

The Saleys (or Saleis ) /sal ɛjs/is a Affluent right of the Gave d' Oloron coming from Dirty-with-Béarn.

Geography

Located between the Arrec Hour and the Arriou de Sordes, Saleys is born behind Camptort and runs out in the North-West crossing Dirty-to-Béarn. It joins in the gave with Cassaber.

Etymology

The name of the Saleys seems related to that of Salies . It of it is probably nothing. If Dirtied car its name of its Saltworks S (the salt water basin of the Bayaà ), the Saleys preserves a name derived from old a Pyrenean Hydronyme * Sal-. One can bring it closer to the verb Gascon salejà “to stir up”, “to be agitated”.
