Salerno is a Italian city of the Province of Salerno in Campanie.
Principal city of the “Côte amalfitaine” (the portion of coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea which includes/understands cities re-elected like Amalfi, Positano, etc), it is primarily known historically to have lodged the king of Italy, which had fled Rome in 1943 after Italy negotiated peace with the Alliés during the Second world war. Transitory “a government of the South” was then established in the city. Allied unloadings took place close to Salerno during the Opération Avalanche.
In 1077, the Normand Robert Guiscard was made main from the city by driving out the prince lombard and by making this city, its principal capital.
Salerno accommodated oldest Université of medicine of Europe, the Schola Medica Salernitana, the most important source to know medical in Europe at the beginning of the Moyen-âge. Today, the two campuses of Fisciano and Baronissi accommodate more 40 000 students divided into ten faculties.
