Salem Chaker (born in 1950), university Algeria N, doctor in letters, Berber specialist in linguistic, is professor of the universities of Berber to the National institute of the languages and civilizations Eastern (INALCO) of Paris since 1989. It succeeds in particular André Basset and Lionel Galand.

Biography

Salem Chaker is professor and researcher linguist born in a family originating in Has Iraten, in Grande Kabylie. He created in 1990 the Berber Research center " Andre Basset" (INALCO), that it directs since. He also exerted ten years at Aix-en-Provence (CNRS and University of Provence: 1981-1989) and at the University of Algiers (1973-1981). He is the author of several works and many studies of linguistics and sociolinguistic Berber. He is also director of the Berber Encyclopédie.
