Salavat

Salavat (Russian: Салава́т) with its 157  932 inhabitants (2005) is the third plus big city of the République of Bachkirie after Oufa and Sterlitamak. It is to 165 km in the south of this city, in the east of the Russia of Europe.

Salavat is a founded new city in 1948, following the development of oil industry in the area. It received the statute of city in 1954. It bears the name of Bachkir, Salavat Yulaef, companion of Pougatchev. It is the seat of an important oil refinery.
