Salatiga
Salatiga is a provincial town Indonesia of Java Centers, located at 47 km in the south of Semarang, the provincial capital, and approximately 100 km in the north of the royal city of Yogyakarta. Its population does not reach 150.000 inhabitants.
Salatiga is divisee into 4 kecamatan (districts): Argomulyo, Tingkir, Sidomukti and Sidorejo.
Located at the foot of the volcanos Merbabu (3 142 m) and Telomoyo, between 450 and 800 meters of altitude, the city enjoys a relatively fresh tropical climate, with a temperature maximum in October (31,8oC) and minimal July (23,9oC). Precipitations have an average of 118 mm per day for 145 days of rain per annum.
History
The " hone of Plumpungan" ( Prasasti Plumpungan ) an inscription gone back to 750 after J. - C. and informant carry whom king Bhanu grants to the village of Hampran the statute of " perdikan ", i.e. exempted taxes. According to the inscription, the inhabitants of this village honor the Trisala goddess. The name would have been then transformed into " Salatri" then in its current form of " Salatiga".In 1917 the colonial administration of the the Indies Dutchwomen confers on the village of Salatiga the statute of staadsgemeente or " small ville".
