Salamanque is a town of Spain, capital of the Province of Salamanque in the Castille-and-León. Its population is of 160 331 inhabitants (Salmantins), approximately: 180000 in the agglomeration.
The city is famous for its student's activity. The Université of Salamanque is oldest of Spain, after that of Palencia. It forms several thousands of students approximately each year (: 30000 registered voters).
History
At the beginning of the occupation of the Iberian peninsula by the Romans, the valley of the Douro was occupied by the Vaccéens (Be occupied, Vacceos). They built two fortified towns to protect their Western borders: Ocello Durii (Zamora) and Salmantica (Salamanque).
Also present, the Vétones were in the current provinces of Avila, Tolède and Salamanque.

Nevertheless it is told that they were given to the city following what follows: The lord who lived it “Put of mow conchas” was hustled by an young man while leaving at his place. This last was not even excused and moved away. Outraged, the aforementioned lord inquired in all the city. He did not find the impolite one. He referred then about it to king d' Espagne. This one made diligenter an investigation from the kingdom which does not end. Impatientant itself of what the king did not answer him for the offense which had been made to him, the lord went to the court of the king. However, at this time, the king of Spain received the visit of king de France. The Lord was introduced to him, then with the son of king de France. The Lord exclaimed then: " But, it is him! it is him which hustled me in front of the step of my door! I require that he excuse himself! " The king of Spain was very embarrassed, because it wished to slacken the relations between Spain and France. It tried to calm its lord.
