Salah Jedid
Salah Jedid (1926 - 1993) (Arab: rear RTL صلاحجديد) is a general and a politician Syria N, important, it is one of the figures of the Parti Baath. He was chief of the Syrian government of 1966 until in 1970.
With the capacity, Jedid, drives out the founders of the Baath party - Michel Aflaq and Salah Aldine Al-Bitar - of Syria and aligns the Syrian policy on that of the Soviet block. Jedid followed a socialist policy in Syria and implemented several reforms, of which amongst other things a land reform, but its popularity falls quickly after the defeat of the Guerre the six day old, and the catch of the plate of Golan by the Israeli armed .
In 1970, during repression carried out by the army Jordan against PLO - black September - Jedid sends of the assistance to the PLO and part of the members of the PLO finds refuge in Syria. However it was not supported by a faction of the Baath party carried out by the Minister for defense, Hafez el-Assad. Following that, Assad seize the power and Jedid is stopped. It finds its freedom in 1983, but it will not have any more the right to put the foot in Syria until its death in 1993.
