In Gardening and Horticulture, salad is a generic term indicating various kinds of vegetable-sheets, i.e. of vegetables whose Feuille S, consumed believed, enter the composition of mets cold of which they took the name, the “salad”, implied “green salad”.

A Mesclun is a prepared mixture of various green salads.

Origin of the word

The word salad comes from the Italian insalata (cf the Provençal salada ). In French, the word is attested since 1335.
