Sakanoue No Tamuramaro
Sakanoue No Tamuramaro (ja 坂上田村麻呂, 758 - 811) was a general and a Shogun of the beginning of the time Heian of the Histoire of Japan. He was the son of Sakanoue No Karitamaro. He is also downward direct of the prince Achi No Omi and Han emperors of China.
Biography
With the service of the emperor Kammu, it begins its military career as a lieutenant d' Ōtomo No Otomaro, then receives in 791 the mission of conquering the Emishi, indigenous people of the north of Honshū. In reward of its victories, it receives in 797 the title of sei-i-taishōgun . Recent discoveries show that a migration of Emishi took place of the north of Honshū towards Hokkaidō between 7th and the 8th century, and is perhaps the direct result of this policy of conquest. However, of many Emishi remain in the Région of Tōhoku as subjects of the empire, and establish independent Fushu fields later.After the death of Kammu, Tamuramaro continues to be useful under the emperors Heizei and Saga as a daiganon and hyōbukyō (Minister for the war).
It makes build in 798 the Kiyomizu-dera, one of the principal temples of Kyōto.
After its death in 811, Tamuramaro is buried in Shōgun-zuka, just in the east of Kyōto.
Festivals
The famous festivals and parades Tanabata of the Préfecture of Aomori (also celebrated with Sendai in the Préfecture of Miyagi, which attract each year three million people in the prefecture, are held in memory of the conquest of the territories of the natives by Sakanoue No Tamuramaro. These festivals are called “Nebuta festival” in the town of Aomori and “Neputa festival” (ja ねぷた祭り, Nebuta matsuri ) in that of Hirosaki. Until the medium of the Years 1990, the price gained for best floats of the parades was called the Tamuramaro price. However, it should be noted that there does not exist any historical proof that it went further in north than the Préfecture of Iwate.
