Saive

Saive (in Walloon Saive-dilé-Blegneye ) is a section of the common Belgian of Blegny located in Walloon region in the Province of Liege.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

Saive (of Latin silva ) was old a freehold Seigneurie of the Principauté of Liege built on the first buttresses of the Pays of Herve, crossed by the brook the Julienne.

Its thousand-year-old history left him a exceptional inheritance including three castles (ruins of the old medieval castle, the castle of the counts de Méan and the castle of the Mound). A very beautiful church of the 17th century and old farms at square court supplement the richness of the place. The last Prince-bishop of Liege, François-Antoine-Marie de Méan, was born there in 1756 and grew there. A long time remained a girdled small village of beautiful orchards, it underwent these last years a Urbanisation which gallops which causes to include it in the outer suburbs of Liege.

The club of Badminton BC Saive became in 2005 champion of Belgium.

Homonymy

This name is also the name of a family of pongists: Jean-Michel Saive, Philippe Saive.
