Holy People of Beaucet († 1127), hermit. Celebrated the May 16th.

Hagiography

It was born with Monteux, in the diocese of Carpentras at the beginning of the XII century. To adolescence, it leaves food as a hermit far from his family and of her village in a small valley around the Beaucet.

He lives in the renouncement, requesting, working and with making penitence. It for example is called upon to obtain the rain in period of great dryness. With its death, the May 16th 1127, its body is deposited close to a rock in the middle of the small valley where a Romance vault was high about the XII century old middle.

It makes many miracles and its worship is approved by the Church.

Caption and miracles

Gens settled in the ruins of an old monastery, cultivating a plot of land for its subsistence with the assistance of the two cows which his/her father had given him to his departure. He requested unceasingly for all the sinners. One day that it was deeply absorbed by its prayer, a wolf precipitated on one of its cows to cut the throat of it. People tamed the wolf, and forced it to plow with the cow which remained.

the mother of People sought it to bring back it to Monteux. She asked him a little water, because she was thirsty. At once, a source ran on its hand.

Arrived at Monteux, Gens required of the priests of the place to organize a procession in order to obtain the end of the dryness. The procession had not traversed yet the streets of the village which the rain started to fall.

Pilgrimage

At the 17th century century, its relics are transported in the church of Beaucet, then brought back in 1972 in the church of its hermitage. Nowadays, its pilgrimage, on May 16th, one of is attended of all the Provence. It is organized by the Brotherhood of Saint People, whose origins go up with 1671.
