Saint-max

Saint-max is a common French, located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the area Lorraine.

The inhabitants are called the Maxois .

Geography

The town of Saint-max is located at the North-East of France, in the suburbs is of Nancy. Its communes bordering are the following ones: Nancy, Essey-the-Nancy, Tomblaine, Dommartemont and Malzéville.
Since 1996, it belongs to the Urban community of Large Nancy at the sides of 19 other communes.

History

In 1866, the locality counted 430 inhabitants. One counts of them today 11.000 in the city which urbanized while taking care of its inheritance. In 1870, it seems already well far this time when SAINT-MAX had the aspect of a small village whose dwellings were grouped for the majority around the Saint M3edard's Day church, some houses being located a little at the variation, the bridge of Essey.

One year later, precisely on May 10th, 1871, the signature of the Treaty of Frankfurt will trace certain lines of the destiny of the locality.

Indeed, this treaty depriving France of part of the departments of the Moselle and Meurthe causes an surge of population towards the part remained French of Loraine and in particular on NANCY whose considerable demographic effort flashes back on the close villages which become communes of suburbs then.

Another factor will contribute to the economic development and demographic of the city maxoise: establishment of industries in the vicinity (Nordon, Fruhinsholz, Daum…) in the low districts of NANCY, along the railway and of the channel.

From 430 inhabitants in 1866, the population of SAINT-MAX passed to nearly 3000 hearts in 1911. Around the new avenue Carnot and new Saint-Livier church whose operational startup had started into 1883 creates a district which will become the current center town.

This rise continues in spite of the First World War and during the inter-war period.

New streets and new districts are built with the favor of the first measurements taken by the governments of the time, encouraging the construction of dwelling houses.

The population will reach 12.489 inhabitants in 1968.

It will be the maximum because the territory of the commune is reduced and it is almost entirely built
