The ground lower Silurien occupies all the extent of Commune.The common one remains abundantly wooded: wood and pond still occupy 200ha, 714ha are still exploited by agriculture in 2000. A great part, classified in ZNIEF of category 2, is in the zone of the granitic outcrops, with a grid Bocage R important.

- With the the Middle Ages, the borough depended on the Sénéchaussée of Angers.
- Under the Old Mode, the parish depended on Archidiaconé of In addition to Maine and the Deanery of Candé, the Election and the Assistances of Angers, of the District into 1788 of Saint-Georges-sur-Loire, then into 1790 of Angers.

Origin of the name
It could come from Latin poterhia who means: where there is water .The antique forest of Echats, almost disappeared today, covered all the region, but appears to be cleared early on this side. The church of St-Lambert is one of the first that one finds made up there, on the edge same of the new cultures, as of the middle of the 11th century. It belonged to the Chapter of St-Maimbeuf by the gift of the counts and the kings, and about 1154 by the pope Adrien IV was confirmed to him. The bishop Jean Guillaume de Beaumont recognized the rights of the canons in 1212, with load by them to reserve on the incomes 100 grounds of revenue for the factory and as much for the fêtage of the canons who came to celebrate the service with the great festivals. Two thirds of said belonged besides to the canons who gave up with their vicar perpetual or cleaned the other third and the income of the novales.

Places and monuments
- Dolmen of Coltrie , beautiful monument with two compartments and collapsed gantry. Two polished stone axes were found to Coltrie, one with the Roadway and five in various points of the commune. Close to the castle of the Roadway moreover at the day a polishing machine was put.
- the vault of the old castle of Coltrie , style XVe century, preserves old stained glasses coming from the church of St-Mathurin.
- the town hall - work of the Dellêtre architect, who draws up himself in the center of the borough, included/understood in the beginning: a class at the ground floor and a room of town hall on the 1st floor with company flat for the teacher (adjudication of work on August 9th, 1844) . In 1987, this old masonry centenary , imposing but unsuited and partially occupied, was the subject of a refitting and of a restoration supplements to meet the needs for a commune whose population has almost quintuplet in twenty years (cost of operation 1 franc million) .
- the war memorial the - It was set up in the communal cemetery (deliberation of the C.M. dated July 6th, 1919) . A stone pyramid of Lavoux with a pedestal on which one can read the names of 17 dead of the war 1914-1918 and the 6 died of the war 1939-1945. This monument was provided by the house Veuve Rouillard of Angers.
- the church - Dedicated to Holy Lambert, bishop of Maastricht. Though modernized at the XIXe century, it still presents old visible Romance openings in its northern wall, towards the garden of the presbytery. Internally are noticed two statues of St Maurice and St Maurille and two side furnace bridges built in 1717 by the Poisson architect and the Dubois sculptor. The chorus, arched in intersecting ribs projecting mullions, without key, is lit by a poor modern stained glass. A span, in front of the nave, carries, coupled of four enormous buttresses, the bell-tower rebuilt in 1828 by the François architect. A bell, fore-mentioned Antoine, was baptized on May 4th, 1986 by Mgr Orchampt. It weighs 465kg.
- the Presbytery - In 1745, an expertise on the cure enumerates kitchen, hall and living room, turning degree with steps ardoisines, two Upper Houses. With the top of the degree (undoubtedly out of turret) was pigeon in the court storeroom, roof with pigs, hen house, bakery, stable, cattle shed. The following year this building was modernized basic in roof by the priest. Sold during the Revolution, repurchased with the purchaser by the family of Boylesve and given to the factory in 1836, placé under sequestration in 1889 and given to the welfare office, it becomes in 1916 property of the count of Estoille which gives it in 1935 to Diocésaine Association.
