Saint-Yvoine
Saint-Yvoine is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area Auvergne.
Geography
Perched at the top of a granitic sprouting, the village of Saint-Yvoine superbly dominates the Allier which curves with its feet. The village of Saint-Yvoine has an altitude of 360m and extend on 800 hectares. It is made up of the principal village and two small hamlets, Bottom and Ribeyre.
History
This naturally defensive site very early constituted a ground of refuge, since at the 10th century, Moine S originating in the Poitou came here to take cover from invasions Normans. One owes them probably the construction of the first Abbaye of Issoire. At the time of the Wars of religion, the village and its surroundings were the theater of violent one confrontations.
The village was called Pierre-Encize initially.
