Saint-Vitte-on-Briance ( Sent Saw in Occitan) is a common French, located in the department of the High-Vienna and the area the Limousin.

History

Vitte saint on Briance:

Rural district of 21 square kilometers and 340 inhabitants, department of High-Vienna, canton of Saint-Germain the Beautiful ones. Located on Right Bank of Briance, the borough is attested as of the 10th century under the terms of St Vic, St Saw, St Viz then St Vitte. It is undoubtedly of the toponymic amalgam between the VIC (of Vicus, smaller Roman administrative unit) and about Vitus (Latin Name of Guy Saint, dedicatee of the parish church) (the swearword by saint Vit was very much used in XIVe and XVe centuries in relation to one of the terms indicating the male sex). The current church was built on the site of a church of the 12th century destroyed due to outdatedness, at the end of the 19th century. the construction of the new church was done in 1898, after fill of the old cemetery.

One can notice a feudal mound on which a house of Master is built who replaced the castle of the lords of Maulmont Saint Vitte, destroyed in 1581

The site of the castle of Curzac is classified, but not the castle itself, because it is the fruit of a relatively recent rebuilding of a manor of XVeme century.
