Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is a common French, located in the department of the Somme and the area Picardy.
Its inhabitants is called Valericains.
This Chief town of canton, located at the mouth of the Somme, is one of the three ports of the Baie of Somme with Crotoy and Hourdel.
Saint-Valery is written “ Saint-Wary ” into Picardy. That explains why there is no accent on the " e" of Val' e' ry.
In spite of the silting of bay of Somme and the Halieutic decline of the resources S, the borough keeps a tourist attraction some.
There also exists of important vestiges, testifying in particular to the passage of Jeanne d' Arc in this city.
During the wars of religion, the captain Cocqueville takes Saint-Valery in June 1568. He is beaten with the Bataille of Saint-Valery on July 18th by the governor of Picardy Thimble-Brissac. Only 300 huguenots escape from it.
Then, the marshal of Thimble takes again Saint-Valery and massacres the Protestants there.
