Saint-Vaast-the-Hougue is a common French, located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.
With approximately a kilometer of the coast, the island Tatihou belongs to the commune of Saint-Vaast-the-Hougue. It is accessible to foot with low tide and an amphibious boat ensures a regular connection with the port. A tower was set up there in 1694 per Benjamin de Combes, raises Vauban.
In the south, the fort of Hougue, also built in 1694 per Benjamin de Combes, became a military base opened once per annum to the public at the time of the days of the inheritance.
Just like the large trawlers moored with the port, the oyster beds visible with low tide between Tatihou and the coast testify to the prevalence of the maritime activity with Saint-Vaast who is the oldest oyster basin of Normandy.
