Saint-Simon (Aisne)

Saint-Simon is a common French, located in the department of the Aisne and the area Picardy. Its inhabitants are called the Saint-Simonians and its living saint-simoniennes.

Geography

Village of old the Vermandois, built on left bank of the Somme.

With the place known as the POINT Y begins the Canal from the Sum which finishes its course with Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. The name NOT Y comes owing to the fact that a loop from the Canal of Saint-Quentin form with the Canal of the Sum the letter “Y”.

Toponymy

The village took the name of Saint-Simon in remembering the happy Simon de Crespy which died in 1082

History

The site or high the village of Saint-Simon was still with uncultivated and cover of undergrowth, and belonged to the territory of Avesne, hamlet dependant aujord' today on Saint-Simon.

Eudes Ier, count de Vermandois, made say one, to clear this ground and built there a castle, around whose some dwellings were fixed which gave rise to the current village.

The village belonged to the seigniory of the Rouvroy, set up in duchy-peerage in 1635 by Louis XIII, with the profit of its favorite, Claude de Rouvroy, father of the famous memorialist Louis de Rouvroy, duke of Saint-Simon

The village was destroyed during the First World War.
